The Messiah - His Last Days

The last days of The Messiah, YAHUSHUA (Jesus) on earth include His trial, crucifixion, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. Separate pages in this series deal with His crucifixion and death, and His resurrection and ascension. Be sure to follow the links in the sidebar to the other pages in this series, The Messiah - Key Events.

Presented below are some of the Scriptures that relate the events of His last days. These events give us many insights into the meaning and purpose of His coming. The readings differ significantly from most English translations. These are taken from the new version of Scripture, The Aleph-Tav Bible. This innovative new version presents the text in a brand new format to help you understand it better.

One of the most significant changes is in the area of the typical names found in most English Bible translations.
These have been changed to reflect the proper personal Names
of YAHWEH (God) and YAHUSHUA (Jesus, Yahshua, Yeshua, Christ, The Lord, etc.).

For even more insight into these passages please refer to the new Bible
where you will also find many new notes inserted into the text
to clarify the language and the issues involved.

May the set apart Divine Nature of YAHWEH teach you The Truth as you read these passages.

The Passover Meal & Gethsemane:

John - Chapters 17 & 18
Please read these from
The Aleph-Tav Bible or your own Bible so you can see the context in which they take place.

Matthew 26.26-49:  And as they were eating, YAHUSHUA took the bread, blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to the students. And He said, “Take! Eat! This is My body.” 27 And He took the cup. And He gave thanks. And He gave it to them saying, “Drink from it, all of you! 28 Indeed this is My blood of The New Covenant which is poured out concerning many for the sake of pardon of offenses. 29 Now I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s Kingdom.” 30 And having sung a hymn, they went out onto The Mount of Olives. 31 At that time YAHUSHUA said to them, “All of you will be ensnared because of Me this very night. Indeed it is written, ‘I will strike The Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ (Zech. 13.7) 32 But after I have been raised up I will go before you into The Galil.” 33 Peter responded saying to Him, “Even if all are ensnared because of You I will never be ensnared.” 34 YAHUSHUA said to him, “Assuredly I say to you that this very night before the rooster crows you will utterly deny Me three times.” 35 Peter said to Him, “Even if I must die with You I will not deny You!” Likewise said all the students. 36 Then YAHUSHUA went with them into a place called Gethsemane, and said to the students, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zabdiy. And He began to be grieved and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My life is exceedingly grieved, even to the point of death. Stay here and be vigilant with Me!” 39 And He went a little farther. And He fell upon His face. And He prayed saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me! Nevertheless, not as I desire, but rather as You desire.” 40 And He came to the students and found them sleeping And He said to Peter, “What! Could you not be vigilant with Me one hour? 41 Be vigilant and pray lest you enter into testing! The nature is truly willing but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again for the second time He went away and prayed saying, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass over from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done!” 43 And He came and found them asleep again because their eyes were heavy. 44 And He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time saying the same words. 45 Then He came to His students and said to them, “Sleep on and rest. Behold! The hour is at hand! And The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of offenders. 46 Awake! Let us be going! Behold! My betrayer is at hand.” 47 And while He was still speaking, Behold! Yahudah, one of the twelve, came with a great crowd with swords and clubs from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now the one who betrayed Him had given them a sign saying, “Whomever I embrace, He is the One. Seize Him!” 49 Immediately he went up to YAHUSHUA and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and embraced Him.

Mark 14.22-45:  Then as they were eating YAHUSHUA took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them and said, “Take! Eat! This is My body.” 23 Then He took the cup. And having given thanks He gave it to them. And they all drank from it. 24 Then He said to them, “This is My blood. It is The New Covenant which is poured out for the sake of many. 25 Assuredly I say to you, I will not at all drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in The Kingdom of YAHWEH!” :26 And having sung a hymn, they went out onto the Mount of Olives. 27 Then YAHUSHUA said to them that, “Everyone will be ensnared because of Me on this very night because it is written, ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ (Zech.13.7) 28 However, after I have been raised up I will go before you into The Galil.” 29 Then Peter said to Him, “Even if everyone is ensnared, on the contrary, I will not be!” 30 And YAHUSHUA said to him, “Assuredly I say to you that this day, on this night, before the rooster has crowed twice, you will utterly deny Me three times.” 31 But he spoke more vehemently, “If I must die with You I will not utterly deny You!” And everyone also spoke in the same manner. 32 Then they went to a place which was named Gethsemane. And He said to His students, “Sit down here while I pray.” 33 And He took with Him Peter, Ya’akob, and Yahonathan. And He began to be utterly astonished and distressed. 34 And He said to them, “My life is intensely sad, even unto death! Stay here and keep awake!” 35 And He went a little farther and fell upon the ground, and prayed that if it was possible the hour might pass away from Him. 36 And He said, “Abba! Father! All things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me! Nevertheless, not what I desire, but rather, what You desire!” 37 Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Shim’on, you sleep. Could you not stay awake one hour? 38 Stay awake and pray so that you do not enter into adversity. The nature indeed is ready, but the flesh is weak.” 39 And once more He went off and prayed, speaking the same words. 40 And having returned, He found them asleep again because their eyes were heavy. And they did not understand what to answer Him. 41 Then He came the third time and said to them, “Continue sleeping and resting. It is enough! The hour has come. Behold! The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of offenders. 42 Get up! Let us go! Behold! He who is delivering Me up approaches.” 43 And immediately, while He was still speaking, Yahudah, one of the twelve, arrived with a large crowd with swords and clubs, besides the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 Now the one who betrayed Him had given them a prearranged signal, saying, “The one whom I kiss, He is the One. Seize Him! And take Him away securely!” 45 And coming, he immediately approached Him and said to Him, “Rabbi! Rabbi!” And he kissed Him earnestly.

1 Corinthians 10.16 The cup of blessing which we bless,
is it not the partnership of the blood of The Messiah?
The bread which we break,
is it not the
partnership of the body of The Messiah?

1 Corinthians 11.23-26:  Indeed, I received from The Master that which I also delivered to you: that The Master, YAHUSHUA, in the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take! Eat! this is My body which is broken for your sake. Do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup having eaten supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 Indeed, as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup you proclaim The Master’s death until He comes.

SPECIAL NOTE: The meal at which this took place was The Passover Meal. Few seem to recognize the significance of this fact. In the midst of The Feast of Passover The Messiah, YAHUSHUA, is tried, convicted, and murdered on a torture stake. Through these events and including His resurrection and ascension, YAHUSHUA became, literally, The Passover Lamb on behalf of everyone who would chose to believe in Him. By His death He provided a ransom (price paid) for the sin-debt which every one of us owes to YAHWEH for our rebellion against His will and instruction.

Few also recognize that “communion”, “The Lord’s Supper”, was instituted at PASSOVER, and it is only at Passover that it is to be celebrated, “in memory of YAHUSHUA”. “Do this in remembrance of Me.” it is NOT to be repeated at other times. It is specifically tied to His death and resurrection as The Passover Lamb. Partaking of this at any other time dishonors YAHUSHUA! It makes a mockery of Passover by ignoring it entirely. The twelve were not instructed to do this every week, or every month. They were to remember Him every year at one of the three required festivals of the Hebrew faith. We need to reconsider what we’re doing.

Many people do not even stop to think about Passover. They think it somehow applies only to Israel, so they don’t have to be bothered to look into it. But the truth is - every single one of us is deeply affected by what YAHUSHUA experienced, on our behalf, during Passover. He, very literally, became OUR PASS-OVER! Through His death He caused YAHWEH to PASS OVER (ignore, forgive, etc.) our sins and the resulting debt we owe because of them. The penalty for any sin is DEATH!

YAHUSHUA's Betrayal and Trial:

Please read the following passages in The Aleph-Tav Bible or in your Bible. They're too long to reprint here, but are very significant in helping to understand just what took place and why The Messiah was murdered.

John 18.1 through 19.6

Matthew 26.47 through Matthew 27.31

Mark Chapter 15

Luke 22.47 through 23.56

His Denial By His Own Followers:

John 18.25-27  Now Shim’on Peter was standing and warming himself. Therefore they said to him, “You are not also from His students, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not!” 26 One of the slaves of the high priest, a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?” 27 Peter then denied again. And immediately a rooster crowed.

Matthew 26.69-75:  Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a slave girl approached him saying, “You also were with YAHUSHUA of The Galilee.” 70 But he denied it in front of them all, saying, “I do not understand what you are saying.” 71 And having gone out into the entrance, another girl saw him and said to the ones there, “This one was also with YAHUSHUA of Nazareth.” 72 And once more he denied with an oath, “I do not recognize the Man!” 73 And after a little while those who were standing there approached and said to Peter, “Surely you also are one of them because your speech makes it clear.” 74 Then he began to curse and swear, saying, “I do not recognize the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the word of YAHUSHUA who had said to him, “Before the rooster crows you will deny Me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Mark 14.26-31: And having sung a hymn they went out onto the Mount of Olives. 27 Then YAHUSHUA said to them that, “Everyone will be ensnared because of Me on this very night because it is written, ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ (Zech. 13.7) 28 However, after I have been raised up I will go before you into The Galil.” 29 Then Peter said to Him, “Even if everyone is ensnared, on the contrary, I will not be!” 30 And YAHUSHUA said to him, “Assuredly I say to you that this day, on this night, before the rooster has crowed twice, you will utterly deny Me three times.” 31 But he spoke more vehemently, “If I must die with You I will not utterly deny You!” And everyone else also spoke in the same manner.

Mark 14.66-72:  Now Peter being below in the courtyard, one of the slave girls of the high priest came. 67 And having seen Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “And you were also with YAHUSHUA of Nazareth.” 68 But he denied it saying, “I do not know nor comprehend what you are saying.” And he went out into the porch, and a rooster crowed. 69 And the servant girl, seeing him again, began to say to those who stood by, “This one is of them.” 70 But he denied it again. And a little later those who stood by said once more to Peter, “Surely you are of them, because you are a Galil’an. Even your speech resembles theirs.” 71 Then he began to curse and to swear, “I do not know this person of whom you speak!” 72 A second time a rooster crowed. Then Peter remembered the word that YAHUSHUA had spoken to him, “Before the rooster crows twice you will utterly deny Me three times.” And having reflected on it, he wept.

Mark 15.21-47:  And they compelled a certain man, Shim’on, a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was coming out of the field and passing b, to carry His torture stake. And they brought Him to the place, Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. 23 And they gave Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink. But He did not take it. 24 And having crucified Him they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine what each one would take. 15:25 Now it was the third hour when they crucified Him. 26 And the inscription of His crime was written, THE KING OF THE YISRA'ELITES. 27 With Him they also crucified two thieves, one on His right hand and the other on His left hand. 28 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with the violators.” (Is. 53.12) 29 And those passing by blasphemed Him, shaking their heads and saying, “Ah! He who destroys The Temple and builds it in three days, 30 save Yourself, and descend from the torture stake!” 31 Then likewise even the chief priests jeering at Him, said among themselves with the scribes, said, “He saved others. Himself He is not able to save. 32 Let The Messiah, The King of Yisra'el, descend now from the torture stake in order that we may see and believe.” And those who were crucified with Him taunted Him. 33 Now the sixth hour having come, there was darkness over the whole land even until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour YAHUSHUA cried out with a loud voice saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My Elohim! My Elohim! Why have You deserted Me?” 35 And some of those standing by, having listened said, “Behold! He is calling for Elijah!” 36 Then one ran and filled a sponge with vinegar, also putting it on a reed, and gave it to Him to drink, saying, “Let Him alone! Let us see if Eliyah will come to take Him down.” 37 And YAHUSHUA omitted a loud noise. And He and expired. 38 And the veil of The Temple was split in two from top to bottom. 39 Then the centurion who stood by opposite Him, seeing that He cried out like this and expired said, “Truly this person was The Son of YAHWEH!” 40 Now women were also observing from a distance, among whom were Miryam Magdalene, Miryam, the mother of Ya'akob the Less and of Yoses, and Salome, 41 who also accompanied Him and ministered to Him when He was in The Galil, and many other women who came up with Him to Yerushalaim. 42 And having already become evening, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before The Special Sabbath, 15:43 Yoseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who also was waiting for The Kingdom of YAHWEH, came and courageously went in before Pilate and asked for the body of YAHUSHUA. 44 Now Pilate marveled that He was already dead. And summoning the centurion he asked him if He had been dead for some time. 45 And having found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Yoseph. 46 And he bought fine linen, lowered Him down, wrapped Him in the linen, and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of rock, and rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 And Miryam Magdalene and Miryam, the mother of Yoses observed where He was laid.

Luke 22.31-34 Then The Master said, “Shim’on! Shim’on! Indeed, The Adversary has demanded you, in order that he may winnow you like grain. 32 But I have prayed concerning you in order that your trust will not fail. And you, when you have returned, strengthen your brothers.” 33 But he said to Him, “Master, I am ready to go with You, even to prison and to death.” 34 Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this very day before you will three times renounce knowing Me.”

Luke 22.54-62 Having arrested Him they led Him away. And they brought Him into the high priest’s house. And Peter accompanied at a distance. 55 Now having kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and having sat down together, Peter sat down in the midst of them. 56 Now a certain female slave, seeing him sitting by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This one was also with Him.” 57 But he denied it saying, “Woman, I do not know Him!” 58 And after a short time another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Person, I am not!” 59 Then after the space of about an hour another confidently affirmed saying, “Surely this one was also with Him because he is a Galil’an.” 60 But Peter said, “Person, I do not know what you are saying!” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And The Master turned around and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of The Master, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows you will renounce Me three times.” 62 And Peter went out and wept bitterly.
